Train to Teach
Working with the King Edward’s Consortium as our teacher training provider, we offer a School Direct full-time, 37-week School Direct programme, leading to QTS and PGDE (Postgraduate Diploma in Education) with 120 Master’s credits. Accredited by the University of Birmingham, the PGDE is taught at the KEC training centre on our school site in Kings Heath, by KEC staff who are Recognised Lecturers of the University. This School Direct route mirrors the KEC SCITT programme entirely.
Applicants to KEC come from all walks of life. They are graduates or career changers with two things in common: a clear commitment to a career in teaching and the potential to become outstanding teachers.
School Direct trainees will be placed in two of the 23 diverse schools within the King Edward’s Consortium from day one, there from the start to the end of the academic year. They are part of the fabric of their schools – in addition to teaching their subjects, they become form tutors and contribute to wider school life. For five weeks at the start of the spring term, they also have a second, shorter placement in a contrasting school.
